Wonderful Web Round Up

I am trying to remember treating myself does not have to center around shopping or food. Here is a list of 23 Ways to Treat Yo' Self Without Buying Or Eating Anything.

I am wanting to get Landry a little backpack because she has been wanting to try to carry her diaper bag. A little bag to throw a couple of snacks and diapers in would be perfect for quick errand running. I am torn between the Fjallraven Kanken Mini (the expensive option, but I could carry it too!) or the Skip Hop Hedgehog Backpack (it is fun, inexpensive, but it is actually larger).

This video that shows 24 Hours of Mom Fashion in 2 Minutes hits the nail on the head! I am a master of changing outfits as the day goes on!

I love easy peasy recipes that are healthy and Landry will eat. She LOVES this Chia Pudding. I can make a big batch and fill up her reusable pouches with it for a quick and healthy snack.

"One thing I love about marriage (and I love a lot of things about marriage) is that you can have a bad day or even a bad few years, full of doubt and fights and confusion and storming out of the house. But as long as you don’t get divorced, you are no less married than couples who never have a hint of trouble..." This post just hit home so much for me. This season of our a marriage is tough one, but this just puts it into focus.

Did you see Nicole's adorable and EASY fall wreath DIY? It is so minimalistic and right up my alley!

I had my first official diagnosis of depression when I was 13, but not until years later did I realize I also suffer from anxiety. Here's What No One Tells You About Having Both Depression and Anxiety just hits the nail on the head.

Shenandoah Valley Vacation Recap

Fun fact- Daniel and I had never taken a full week vacation together since being together. Our honeymoon wasn't even a whole week because he was in a wedding the following weekend after we got married. So when Daniel's parents offered this summer to let us use some of their timeshare points to take a vacation we were ecstatic (THANK YOU AGAIN).

We had been looking forward to our vacation since we booked it in June. We stayed at Massanutten Resort outside of Harrisonburg, VA and had a 2 bedroom condo which was perfect. Landry had her own room so we didn't have to worry about being quiet after she went to bed. We also had a full kitchen and 2 full bathrooms which was nice.

I realized that holy moly we took a lot of pictures so I will share next week a couple of posts of our adventures out and about with tons of pictures. Here are primarily pictures from around the resort. I highly recommend heading to the Shenandoah Valley in mid-October. It is absolutely breath-taking and beautiful. We constantly were saying saying "Look! Look!". We couldn't get enough of the views. This vacation was the perfect combination of activities and taking it easy.

Tell me that this view doesn't just make your heart miss a beat. Trees/leaves are my love language. The way the ocean makes most people feel so small is what the mountains do to me. I could sit and gaze at them forever.

Can we talk about how my hair is literally eclipsing my daughter? I didn't realize till later that my hair ruined an otherwise great family picture. Big hair problems for the win!

The resort had several parks scattered through out but this one was our favorite. It was a park/arboretum and perfect. Also lot's of people brought their dogs to play which Landry was ecstatic about! She would just start yelling "Dog! Dog! Dog!" and try to chase after them.

Daniel loved Landry finally wanting to hold his hand instead of mine. They got so much closer on vacation which actually gave this mama a little bit of a break!

Pretty sure I am going to have to hang this picture in my office to stare at all the time. I love it!

If it's possible homegirl became even more attached to Lorax during vacation!

Our daughter is cooler than either one of us!

Parks are kind of our jam so we headed into Harrisonburg one evening to play at A Dream Come True Playground. It was so neat! Highly recommend checking it out if you are in the area.

Jack Brown's Single Wide is a small version of the regular Jack Brown's right outside of the resort. They have the best burger's! We might have ate there 3 times during our vacation because we loved it so much. Daniel was obsessed with the fries and I was a little obsessed with their fried oreos. The outside seating was great for Landry (she is getting to that age where she does not sit still when eating out) and it was such a laidback atmosphere.

I got the Greg Brady Burger that had BBQ chips and macaroni and cheese on it. It was the best!

There was 2 arcade areas at the resort so one morning we got a bunch of quarters and played games. We ended up sitting Landry in a chair with snacks and Daniel Tiger on Netflix so we could play a game of pool. Let it be known I won a game!

Lobsta Rollin! Another great restaurant right outside the resort. We got their lobster rolls, lobster tacos, and clam chowder for dinner one night. It was amazing and we officially love lobster! They get their lobster's from Maine and they know what they are doing! They also have a food truck in Harrisonburg.

Hitting up our favorite park again!

I know tons of pictures!! It was just such a beautiful area we couldn't stop taking pictures. We are going back up to Massanutten with Daniel's family in June and we can't wait to go to the Water Park on site, the outdoor pools, and checking out some of the breweries in Harrisonburg. It was nice to not be too stressed about doing it all because we knew we would be going back this summer. Next week I will share a few of our outings!

How Climb Out of a Funk

Y'all, I've been in a funk. Maybe it's the post-vacation blues... maybe it's Landry's apparent dislike of sleeping when she is home... maybe it is the rainy days... maybe it is the shorter days. I think it is probably a cumulation of all those things with a little dash of lack of self-care. So I decided this morning after in a fit of rage/anger/sleep deprivation/sadness I threw our on the fritz Keurig in the trashcan that I did not want my week/day to continue this way. Below is the strategies I am using to climb out of my funk, maybe they will be of some help!

1. Get Dressed. It's amazing how changing out of yoga pants and a teeshirt can completely change your worldview. This morning I put on my favorite maxi skirt, boots, and a sweater (comfy but put together) and some simple jewelry. I automatically felt less blah and downtrodden. I also put a little bit of make up on and a spritz of perfume.

2. Get Out of the House. When Landry is fussy and I am short-tempered the walls just start closing in at home. Landry's fussiness fuels my moodiness, my moodiness fuels her fussiness, and before you know it we are stuck in a vicious cycle that leaves both of us in tears. This morning soon after Daniel left, I scooped up Landry and we headed to Chick-Fil-A. We had already had breakfast (since she woke up at 5:20am), but we got a little snack, watched the older people playing Bingo, and then played in the play place.

3. Be Around People. For me when I get into one of these funks the best thing is for me to spend a little more time around others. I have a tendency to want my alone time but it is not what is best for me when I am in one of these funks. I start stewing, throwing pity parties, and becoming slightly hopeless. Everything in me wants to cancel any plans I have and be a hermit but that doesn't make anything better. So this week I have had plans with a friend and her new baby, dinner with a friend, story time at the library, etc.

4. Take a Shower. I am a night showerer (let's not get into the debate of morning showers vs night showers CAUSE NIGHT SHOWERS WILL WIN), but when I am having a rough day taking a quick hot shower can work wonders. Once I laid Landry down for her nap I hopped right into the shower. I used one of my nicer shower gels and soaked up the hot water. I felt invigorated and renewed.

5. Take a Nap. There are twenty thousands things I could be working on, but sometimes when I am in a funk the best thing I can do is take a quick little cat nap while Landry naps. I'm talking 30 minutes because any longer and I get angry that I didn't get more sleep.

6. Drink a Warm Beverage. But not coffee (unless decaf). When I am already worked up coffee (even though it is my favorite) just makes me more worked up and jittery and anxious. But I love the comforting aspect of a warm beverage so I try to have some nicer hot tea on hand (preferable decaf) or hot chocolate. This time of year is perfect some warm apple cider too! Just sitting and enjoying a warm beverage without being in a rush or simply drinking to try to get a caffeine buzz is really nice.

It is so great to keep a list like this around because I know when I am in the middle of a funk and about to set up camp and stay awhile I forget to be proactive and try to climb out of the funk. Did any of these things change my circumstances? Absolutely not. Landry still isn't sleeping great, I am still exhausted, I am still not on vacation, it is still raining. But my outlook about those circumstances has changed a little and I am a little more emotionally equipped to handle the little challenges that come up during the day (except that damn Keurig, I am done with it!).

What are some of your strategies for overcoming a funk?

Shenandoah Valley Recap via Instagram

I promise later this week I will do a full recap of our vacation along with some pictures taken from my DSLR. Unfortunately, since we've been home Landry has decided the perfect scheduled she followed during vacation is going to be thrown out the window and she is going to fuss and protest no longer being on vacation. You and me both baby girl.

So for now I am going to photo dump my instagram pictures here so that I can dream we are back in our little mountain bubble with no cares or worries and a child who is happy a clam.

On the drive up we stopped at the Science Center of Western Virginia in Roanoke, VA to let Landry play a little.

Landry of course loved the parks at the resort!

We don't typically let Landry watch much tv and if she does it is on our phones or iPad, but girl learned real quick how to use a remote!

We went to the Explore More Museum in Harrisonburg, VA. It was so fun watching Landry play and check out everything!

We decided to bring a piece of home with us on vacation. 2 growlers of beer from our local breweries. They were our treat in the evenings after Landry went to bed!

Obviously paper towel rolls are better toys than store bought ones!

I think Daniel and I repeated at least a hundred times "look how pretty". Picture's cannot convey how beautiful the leaves were.

Crisp evenings on our deck with hot chocolate is definitely a good way to spend time.

We went to the cutest farm for pumpkin picking, hay rides, pig racing, and more! We took so many pictures, I will share more later this week!

After this vacation I am officially on a all things fall kick. Look at the beautiful pumpkins and mums.

We spent a good portion of time outside at the resort parks and arboretum.

Exploring some parks in Harrisonburg, VA!

Our sweet girl eating up the blackberries while we packed to go home.

It was a great first week vacation for our family! I can't wait to share a little more later this week.
