Mini-Capsule Wardrobe Review

I wanted to do a little breakdown/review of what I have learned over the last almost 40 days during my mini-capsule wardrobe/40 days to a better me. Here is the original post if you want to check it out.

First off I have no stuck with using My Fitness Pal every day. I was doing pretty good except for weekends but then the last couple of weeks I have been sporadic with it. I have lost 8 pounds overall which I am proud of. I lost a lot at the beginning and have tapered off but not put any back on which I count as a win. I am definitely not where I want to be but it is a start and gives me the motivation to continue.

I have also started the Blogilates 28 day beginner challenge. I have missed a few days this week because life has been a little crazy but overall I am proud of how well I am following the plan. I would definitely recommend checking it out. It is pilates but Cassey leads videos and they are fantastic! Plus completely free. I can feel myself getting stronger. I now need to add in some cardio and I would be pretty good to go!

Ok so on to the clothes...

Here are three things I am getting rid of. I love my little denim vest but I do NOT love it being cropped. I find it hard to figure out what to wear it with and I think a regular denim vest instead of cropped would work better for me.

I hate these pants. I bought them at the end of winter out of desperation and they were on sale. They have never fit great and they are too cropped for my liking. I also only wore them once during my mini-capsule because once it consistently stays above 70 degrees I don't wear pants because I hate them.

I used to love this Lane Bryant blouse but both outfits I posted on the blog wearing it (here and here) I did not like! I felt frumpy and too soccer mom looking. That is not the style I am wanting to go for.

All three of these items I am selling on my Poshmark account. It is a website/app where you can buy and sell used clothing and accessories. I have sold several items (which is helping me pay for new additions to my wardrobe for summer) and have bought a couple of things. I highly recommend checking it out! And if you do use my code when you sign-up PQZZN you will get a $5.00 credit to use anywhere on the site! (By the way, this is not a sponsored post I am just a HUGE poshmark fan and if you are downsizing your closet it is a great resource. I get so much more money from it than I do from consignment stores. They do not take as large of a percentage!)

I did not wear these cardigans once, but I am not getting rid of them. I wear them tons in fall and winter and even early spring. But dummy me, I forgot that once May hits in the south you are pretty much already in summer so there is no place for cardigans. They will just get packed away into storage and saved for another season.

On to my favorite pieces...

You know how I said I got paint on my chambray  shirt and thought it was a lost cause? I GOT THE PAINT OUT (insert praise hand emojiis). I wear this shirt a lot and I know it will be carried over to my summer capsule wardrobe. It is light weight, makes a nice little "jacket" when it a chilly inside, and I just love it!

This grey dress has also been one of my favorites. It is so easy, breezy (beautiful covergirl... I couldn't help myself). It was like the sweatpants of dresses but looks nicer.

I have sang the praises of my trusty cargo vest before. It is really like the security blanket of my wardrobe. When I feel iffy about any outfit or just not like myself I throw my vest on and instantly feel more me.

My hello tee-shirt has been worn continously. I love the loser baggy feel and I have even worn it to work out in. Unfortunately there is two small stains on the front after so much wear. I am still working on getting them out but no luck so far. I really hope to save it!!

Besides my Sam Edelman flats (lower image) I wore all my shoes a ton! I love shoes and I love rotating shoes with my outfit. I love my Sam Edelman flats but they are not summer shoes. They will be put away until fall or winter when I know I will get more wear out of them.

I love my fake birkenstocks. I love them so much I am really really considering real birkenstocks. Like I need to sell a lot more of my stuff on poshmark and then use the money to buy me birkenstocks because it would completely be worth every penny!! I wore my TOMS and my saltwater sandals like crazy too. I definitely will be adding more shoes to my capsule wardrobe for the summer. I didn't have enough!

Here are my favorite outfits from the last 40 days...

I think what these outfits have in common is comfort, but put together. They are minimalistic but also a little eclectic. I said in my Tagspire interview that my style is classic with a little bit of a boho/hippie vibe and I definitely think that is true. Doing this capsule wardrobe helped bring me back to the heart of my style. And that really is why I did it.

When you strip away the excess, the noise, the consumerism, you really get to the heart of what YOU like, what YOU are comfortable in, what flatters YOU. I am so excited about my summer wardrobe because I have almost finished up my shopping and the pieces in my wardrobe really feel me. My mini-capsule had bits and pieces of me, but overall was not. It was a mish-mash of things that fit my post-partum body, not necessarily things I loved. I only want to buy pieces from here on out that I absolutely love! Not things I think I can make work because they were on sale.

So I know I did not show y'all anywhere close to all the outfits/outfit combos that could have been made with my wardrobe. But to be honest I don't always get "dressed up" depending on the day. Some days it really is a running shorts and tee kind of day. My goal for this next go-round is to make a conscious effort to get dressed in real clothes (not loungewear/pjs/workout gear) at least 5 days a week. I know that sounds like a silly goal but when you are a stay-at-home mom you will be surprised how often it doesn't happen. I feel better and more productive when I take the time to put on real clothes (I rarely stay in pjs but usually just wear workout gear unless we have big plans).

Please come back Monday to check out my summer capsule wardrobe! I really am excited about it and I can't wait to share with y'all!

Have you considered doing a capsule wardrobe? If so please leave a link in comments (if you blog). I would love to hear about your journey!

Any tips for getting stains out of a shirt?

Daily Wears 05.28.15

I feel like for the last outfit I post for my mini-capsule wardrobe I should post an outfit I absolutely love! Unfortunately, that is not the case. I liked the outfit in theory but once I put it on I hated it. You might be wondering why did I post it then? Because that is part of the process of limiting your wardrobe. You make mistakes, you realize pieces you own don't work and don't fit your style. You wear things that you are not comfortable in/don't feel like yourself. And hopefully the next go-round you make better decisions, you've honed your style, you've figured out what works on your body, and what feels like you. So I will show you outfits I don't care for because it has helped me better figure out the ones I do like!

This is outfit just screams "soccer mom" to me and that is not me. I really do prefer outfits with more of a minimalistic/boho feel to them. Outfits a little more eclectic or surprising. Nothing about this outfit really fits into those categories. Only good thing about it was it was comfortable.

My shorts are officially becoming too big, which is a good thing but also a bad thing. I still don't fit into my old pre-baby shorts but these are too big. I guess I will make do with these shorts until I am no longer in-between sizes.

Tomorrow I will be doing a recap of my capsule wardrobe so stay tuned!!

How would you describe your style?

Daily Wears 05.27.15

Tee-shirt and skirts, the best outfit combo for looking put together but in reality being super comfortable! I don't know if I am going to keep this skirt in my capsule wardrobe for the summer. I feel like I haven't worn it as much as I thought I would. It is also a little shorter than I am comfortable wearing when I am out with Landry. Mom life = constantly picking up things! And this skirt is not very conducive to doing so. But I love the polka dots and the light weight material. We shall see!

My hair looks extra frizzy in these pictures but Olivia Pitman suggested I try Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque after I posted about my hair care routine... BEST HAIR MASK EVER! My curls looked better after using it than they have since having Landry. What is it with your hair going crazy after you have a baby?? My curls are not nearly as bouncy or spirally as they used to be. Anyway going check out the Macadamia Natural Oil mask. I found it for super cheap at TJMaxx.

Ok, so since y'all have been helpful (THANK YOU OLIVIA ABOUT THE HAIR MASK!) I have a new question. You see my bag pictured? I love my fossil crossbody! My Pawpaw bought it for me 7 years ago when we were at the beach. It is well loved and seen it's better days. But I have not been able to find a decent priced replacement that meets my criteria.
  • I have to have a crossbody bag because otherwise I will sit my bag down somewhere I lose it (have done it numerous times).
  • I need tanish-brown, it matches black, brown, and navy blue so best color out there.
  • I love the front pocket on my current bag, I stick my cell phone in there and don't have to search for it.
  • I also would like at least one pocket on the inside.
  • And here is the kicker, I would like something under $50 but doesn't look cheap. I just can't afford another fossil bag right now.
So there is my requirements. If anyone has any suggestions please comment and let me know! Or email me or facebook or instagram or twitter. I'm desperate here people!!

What do you look for in a bag? What's your go-to outfit combo to feel put together?

Weekend Recap

How was everyone's weekend? I feel like my weekend started on Thursday night with our anniversary date night. It was so nice to have a date night during the week! That has never happened! We had our neighbor Gail watch Landry (she also kept Landry for the month I was back at work).

We started the evening with checking out a new-to-us restaurant in town, Asian Fusion Kitchen. We both got the pad thai (which was delicious) and I tried bubble tea for the first time.

After dinner we headed up to Lake James which is absolutely beautiful. The mountains in the background and there is a beachy area where we can park our kayaks and get in the water. It was so nice to get outside in the fresh area and kayak. It really is something special Daniel and I share and we haven't gotten to do it since September of 2013! I was pregnant with Landry and then since having Landry we just haven't gotten around to it. Our kayaks have just sat in the garage looking so sad and lonely.

After dinner we went to park and walked on the greenway for a little bit.

Friday I met one of my former co-workers from Lane Bryant for lunch at Cracker Barrel. Landry loved the little rocking chairs outside. It was so nice to catch up!! I also picked up my new-to-me Ford Escape Hybrid! It's silver and gets amazing gas mileage and gives us so much more room than my little Toyota Matrix did.

Saturday was more of a productive day full of grocery shopping and cooking. I also got an adorable baby book (finally) for Landry. I know she is already 10 months old but it's better late than never, right?

Sunday Daniel's cousin had his confirmation so we attended the service and afterwards we went to his aunt and uncle's house for a cookout/swimming. Landry got in a full-size pool for the first time! It was a little chilly but overall she enjoyed. No crying so we consider it a win! Daniel and I were glad that we got to see how Landry did a real pool with our upcoming beach trip in June. Landry is so squinty in all the pictures but she won't keep sunglasses on!

Monday did not go quite as we planned. Landry woke up super early and after poor sleep most of the weekend was fussy all day. I also didn't feel good the later part of the day. On the bright side we did major purging of EVERYTHING in our house. We took the biggest box to Goodwill. I love getting rid of things (I hate stuff!) so it made an otherwise not so great Monday a little better.

Stay tuned the week for the last week of my mini-capsule wardrobe. I will have outfit posts the next three days and then Friday I will do a recap!

What did you do this weekend? Any big plans for the week?

Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day, y'all! Just a quick post this morning because my husband is off work (yay!!) and we bought a bike trailer for Landry to ride in so we are hitting the Greenway today and going to be new favorite local burrito place for lunch!

I want to say on top of enjoying your day off work today and the unofficial start to summer please take time to remember the men and women who have given their lives so that you could be safe and protected. So you could spend a glorious day off work with your family with no fear. Remember those who right now are fighting to protect our freedoms and our country. Today if you see a veteran or current service person please reach out to them and say thank you!

What are your plans for Memorial Day?

So this is what I was going to wear on our date night last night but then we made the better decision to go kayaking. I will share more with you Monday all about our anniversary evening! If you follow me on instagram you already got a little sneak peak!

Ok so you might have noticed on my second picture some funny little icons. They are tags that lead you to similar or the same items I am wearing all thanks to an awesome new site/app Tagspire.

I know you are wondering what the heck is this Tagspire that I keep mentioning. Let me explain...

Are you ever on instagram or facebook or any social media site and you see someone post an awesome picture and you wonder "where can I find those shoes?" or "I LOVE that couch, where could I find one similar?" Tagspire takes all the guess work out of the equation! It is an online community for ANYONE (not just bloggers) to tag pictures with the products shown or something similar. Your pictures are uploaded to your collections on the Tagspire site/app. You don't have to have a blog to post them to. The even bigger plus is if anyone purchases something you've tagged you make a commission off of it! It's a win-win for everyone!

Tagspire is truly a one-stop shop, you can find inspiration, reviews, and exact products. I am also so excited to be featured as their first Tagsetter! If you want to head over to the Tagspire blog and check out their interview with me that would be awesome! Also come find me on tagspire, brittanykdeal. 4 Years

I apologize for the picture overload. Once I started going down memory lane I just couldn't stop myself. Every picture reminds me of another adventure, another trip, another milestone. Today is our 4 year anniversary and I can't believe all that we have gone through together in these last 4 years.

You graduated grad school, me undergrad, we moved 6 times, 3 different jobs for you, 3 different jobs for me, numerous weekend getaways/trips, we bought a house, we bought 2 cars, we've suffered through 2 miscarriages, we have lost 2 loved ones, and we had our precious baby girl! It's been a heck of a ride these last 4 years.

This man right here, he has made me a better woman. He is my perfect opposite. He's an ISTJ and me an ENFJ. He keeps me grounded when I get a little flighty, he levels me out when I am high strung. And I like to this I make him a little more compassionate and empathetic.

I never fixated on my wedding day because I was more excited about the years of marriage that follow. And I have to say, I have had so many days with this man since our wedding day that have been a million times more memorable and fantastic. It isn't about a wedding, it's about a marriage.

We are nowhere near relationship experts and we are still trying to figure out this new season in our marriage as parents. But there is no one else I would want to muddle through the messiness of parenthood and life. There is no one else I would rather sit in the living room with and watch Fraiser for the millionth time. There is no one else I want to sleep beside and kick when their snoring is too much.

I love you so much Daniel.

Daily Wears 05.20.15

This post could also be titled "RIP Chambray Shirt" or "We Bought a New Car".

When the morning started I imagined writing this post. Oh how I had such high hopes for the day and to share such a fantastic day with y'all. Sadly, that is not the case. Let me start at the beginning...

I signed Landry up for a little play group/art class for kids 6m-2 years at a local art place that just opened in town. It started at 9:00am which for the last couple of weeks has been right when Landry is taking her first nap of the day. My better judgement said to not go to the class. It would screw up Landry's schedule, it would screw up my schedule, I have horrible luck with meeting other moms! But I decided to try to be positive especially since I knew Landry would love it.

The class went ok, a little disorganized, I didn't hit it off with any moms, and the worst part... I got paint on my beloved chambray shirt (as seen here, here, and here). It should have been a sign to how the rest of the day would go. Landry loved the class though and loved getting to see other children.

Landry missed her first nap as a result of the class and of course fell asleep for 5 minutes on the way home which threw off laying her down for the next nap. The house was also a wreck from trying to get out of the house that morning. I scrambled up some lunch for us and luckily got Landry down for a nap by 12:45pm.

Let me add that the night before we found out Landry had gotten her first diaper rash. It was horrible and I was trying to change her diapers even more frequently throughout the day plus slathering on diaper cream. Also Landry had decided not to eat her table foods well which made everything a little more difficult.

I was so hoping that nap would last for 2 hours but alas it only lasted for an hour. But I wasn't getting upset because I had signed up for a yoga class in town. Through all the stress of the day I was hanging onto the fact that come 7:00pm that night I would be in a yoga class relaxing and centering myself.

Daniel was getting off work early at 3:00pm so we could drive 30 minutes to go to a car dealership to look at a used Ford Escape Hybrid that we were interested in. I love my little Toyota Matrix but it is a little too small for Daniel and we needed a little more room with toting around all of Landry's stuff.

I had everything packed up (including my stuff for yoga and being dressed for yoga) so when Daniel got home we could leave immediately. In case you didn't know, wheeling and dealing with a dealership takes forever. Landry and I hung out in the kids room (thank God for small favors) but she started getting antsy and was overtired. It became obvious that I was not going to make it back home for my class. That is when I pretty much lost it. I got the car keys from Daniel and left him at the dealership while I drove around until Landry fell asleep.

We bought the car barely having to increase our car payment. I really like it and I can't wait to pick it up in a few days. But I was beyond pissed to miss my class. I also was pissed that I really don't have any stay-at-home mom friends that could commiserate in my terrible day. Some days it's just so exhausting, you just give so much and in the moment you cannot see the return. Some days nothing seems to work out and when you get home you want to do nothing but instead you are still on duty and huddled over the washing machine putting stain remover on every freaking item of clothing your child has worn in the last 2 weeks (ALL THE STAINS!).

So here's hoping to a better day, here's to fresh starts and tomorrows. Here's to anniversary date nights  on the horizon that are the only thing getting you through the week. Here's to 3-day holiday weekends which means you get a bonus day with an extra pair of hands.
